Many of the photos that we treasure are posed with everyone smiling and looking at the camera. I love these as much as the next person. However, I decided to show my family just being. Not posed. Not directed. Just them in the moment. I wanted to capture the connection between siblings and parents. Those invisible threads of family life that disappear when the camera is out.

Recently, we enjoyed a magical weekend away to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The background in these images is an island on the coast between Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. The thick rainforest and gorgeous beach add to the story. It is our moment on an island. Who knows if we will ever get to repeat this, but I am grateful that we have these memories and unposed images.
